UC Davis undergraduate students Meredith Sward and Natalie Roman recently received the “Best Experimental Documentary” award from the 12th annual UC Davis Film Festival for their film, Loyal Aggies.
Sward is a fourth-year student in Technocultural Studies with a minor in Women and Gender Studies, and is also an Academic Technology Services employee; Roman is in her third year and is majoring in American Studies. The festival is produced by the Department of Theatre & Dance and presented by the Davis Varsity Theatre in association with UC Davis Cinema and Technocultural Studies and co-sponsored by Art Studio.
The film was inspired by the Sward and Roman’s participation in group studies on the Davis Occupy Movement. All image and sound in the video is appropriated from Aggie TV and YouTube footage. Sward explains that, “the imagery not from the events surrounding November 18th were taken from advertisements for the Aggie Pack (the girl getting hit by a football player), the band, and students at a sporting event.”
Congratulations, Meredith and Natalie!
