Faculty Forum Friday, November 16th: Strategies for remote teaching

NOTE: Because of the campus closure on November 16th, we will reschedule this event for future faculty forum. Meanwhile, please plan to join us on the first and third Thursdays of the month at noon in 1310 Surge III / The Grove.

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Given the recent campus closures due to air quality, a faculty forum on strategies for remote teaching is particularly appropriate. As such, please join us for November’s faculty forum (November 16 at noon) which will feature a discussion with faculty colleagues who have experience teaching online and blended courses. We hope this discussion will help faculty as they consider how to ensure students are given ongoing opportunities to master course content despite interruptions in face-to-face classes.

Jeanette Ruiz, from the Department of Communication, will join us and share her experience adapting course content for online delivery. As the keynote speaker at SITT 2018, Ruiz shared her experience in her talk titled “How I moved my course online and lived to tell the tale” (for slides and audio of this keynote lecture, check out these SITT 2018 resources). In addition, Debbie Fetter, from the Department of Nutrition, will join us. Fetter teaches both the online version and the face-to-face version of Nutrition 10 and was involved in the development and design of the online version. Katerina Ziotopolou, from the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, will also join us and share her perspective on online/blended learning in her field. The faculty forum this coming Friday will provide faculty the opportunity to discuss online and blended learning as it relates to day-to-day realities (e.g., campus closures) as well as our broader goals as educators.

Please join us Friday, November 16th at noon in 1310 Surge III/The Grove for this highly topical and engaging faculty forum on online and blended learning.

Best,

Andy Jones
