Register for the Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology (Sept 13)
We're pleased to say that, with the help of The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, we at Academic Technology are reviving (for one day, September 13th) the Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology (or SITT). For over ten years, SITT provided a means for faculty from across the disciplines to discover more about teaching innovatively with technology, and to discover and support their colleagues who have committed themselves to excellent teaching.
As you can see from the agenda below, this year's SITT will focus on technology in both physical and virtual classrooms, digital tools, the LMS Transition Initiative, intellectual property & copyright, and, of course, innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
What? The day will begin with group discussions of the future of educational technology at UC Davis. Then, from 11am-12:30pm, you'll select one of three panels to attend:
You will have the opportunity to select from three fantastic breakout sessions in the afternoon (2pm-3:30pm):

What? The day will begin with group discussions of the future of educational technology at UC Davis. Then, from 11am-12:30pm, you'll select one of three panels to attend:
- Technology in the Physical Classroom: Sarah Perrault, Bryan Enderle, Derald Reedy, and Tim Leamy will share their knowledge of and experiences with using technology to teach in large lecture halls and in computer classrooms.
- Innovative Teaching: Sam Nichols, Annaliese Franz, Lisa Pruitt, and Andy Jones will share tips and tricks for successful teaching.
- Teaching in Virtual Environments: Mary Stewart, Jim Carey, and John Owens will describe their experiences with developing for and teaching in hybrid environments, online environments, and MOOCs.
You will have the opportunity to select from three fantastic breakout sessions in the afternoon (2pm-3:30pm):
- Digital Tools Workshop: In a computer lab, Dan Comins will introduce you to multiple tools to enhance teaching and learning.
- SmartSite and the LMS Transition: In a computer lab, Fernando Socorro, Steve Faith, and Andy Jones will demonstrate the differences between SmartSite (run by Sakai) and LMS alternatives that we are considering (Canvas and Desire2Learn).
- Intellectual Property & Copyright: Amy Kautzmann and Rosemary Capps will lead you in a discussion of how to approach these issues in both face-to-face and online education.
