December 1 DOLCE: Instructional Use of Lecture Capture and Photography -- join us in 1310 Surge III / The Grove at Noon!
Dear Colleagues,
I write to invite you to our Noon December 1st DOLCE (Discussing Online Learning and Collaborative Education) meeting in 1310 Surge III / The Grove, at which time we will hear from two experts on using media (video and photography) in our university classes. Please plan to join us December 1st at noon in 1310 Surge III / The Grove.
Jacqueline Bergman will give a presentation and answer questions about her use of lecture capture in Nutrition 10, one of the most popular classes offered at UC Davis.
For nearly ten years, Dr. Jacqueline Bergman has been dedicated to empowering individuals to make healthy food choices. Her primary research interests lie in the development and assessment of innovative on-line instructional resources and technology for the young adult population. Under the tutelage of Dr. Liz Applegate, Bergman assisted in the conversion of the largest in-person general education course at UC Davis, Discoveries and Concepts in Nutrition (NUT 10), to the on-line version, NUT 10Y. As of Fall 2016, Dr. Bergman is the instructor for NUT 10 and NUT 10Y and has collaborated with members of Academic Technology Services to deliver NUT 10Y lectures via their lecture capture system. She is also working with Dr. Lisa Miller of the Department of Human Ecology and ATS to develop an online, practice-based nutrition literacy tool. Dr. Bergman holds a BS degree in Biological Sciences and a PhD in Nutritional Biology, both from UC Davis.
We will also be joined by the lead photographer of Academic Technology Services, Thomas “T.J.” Ushing. Mr. Ushing will present a series of photographs that he has taken for different UC Davis projects, and point out how even he, as a professional, sometimes makes poor choices that are not often discovered until an image is being prepared for an audience. Having seen a version of this presentation, I can tell you that it is both illuminating and hilarious. Join us Friday at noon!
