February 1st DOLCE This Friday!

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please join us this Friday, February 1st at noon for our first DOLCE of 2019. This month’s DOLCE will begin with an introduction to the new Associate Vice Provost and Associate Chief Information Officer for UC Davis, Dr. Meggan Levitt. Given Dr. Levitt’s extensive experience leading and supporting educational technology in higher education, we are excited to have her join us at DOLCE and introduce herself to faculty.

Bert Craig, interim manager of the Media Services Unit at Academic Technology Services, will present a talk entitled “Lecture Capture: Thoughtful integration to promote student learning.” As Alexandra Mauceri, communication intern for The Wheel, noted in her recent post on lecture capture, providing recordings of lectures can help students who have to miss courses due to illness the opportunity to review valuable material. Bert Craig’s talk will spur faculty to consider how best to integrate classroom recordings into the curriculum, and thus improve all students’ learning.

Secondly, Keith Sollers, graduate student researcher for Academic Technology Services, will join us. His talk “Using Technology to Encourage Learning with a Growth Mindset” explores his recent work exploring the potential of using technology to facilitate a course environment where small failures are repurposed to promote growth and ultimate success. He has presented on this topic at a graduate student forum hosted by our friends at the Center for Educational Excellence.

Finally, Dr. David Levin, Academic Technology Services will provide an update on the Move to Duo. After DOLCE, Academic Technology Service staff will offer a 30-minute in-person session to assist faculty who would be interested in enrolling in Duo.

We look forward to seeing you this Friday, February 1st at noon 1310 Surge in 1310 Surge III/The Grove (three buildings west of the Silo).

Best,

Andy Jones
