May 3rd DOLCE: Integrating Online Citizen Science Tools and Flipped Classrooms

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please join us for the May 3rd DOLCE at noon in 1310 Surge III/The Grove. Dr. Laci Gerhart-Barley, Department of Evolution and Ecology, will share her talk “Integrating Online Citizen Science Tools in College Courses.” Dr. Gerhart-Barley was interviewed for an AudioBlog Entry for The Wheel in which she shared her experience using AggieVideo during the campus closure in November. Her talk Friday will focus on her experience as a Sacramento region coordinator for the City Nature Challenge. We anticipate that Dr. Gerhart-Barley’s presentation Friday will inspire faculty across the disciplines to use technologies to integrate real-world experiences into a course.

Dr. Amanda Crump, Department of Plant Sciences, will join us as well and present some thoughts  on flipped classrooms and critical thinking, a topic of recent research for her.

DOLCE will conclude with a discussion of Canvas updates presented by Educational Technology (ET) Partners, undergraduates who stand ready to support faculty with the use of UC Davis Canvas and other instructional technology tools.

As a reminder, request for proposals for faculty microtalks at SITT 2019 is open until May 24th. If you are interested in applying as a faculty speaker at SITT 2019, please respond to this invitation to participate as a presenter (or use this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfkB3t8C3ylnMoSWoeXHfNAsSp4OhhnAzKO5CZHNqLmRsggUw/viewform?usp=sf_link ).

Please join us at DOLCE this Friday, May 3rd at noon in 1310 Surge III/The Grove.

Best,

Andy Jones
