DOLCE February 7th: Ethical Uses of Technology, Virtual Exchanges, and Gradescope

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please join us this Friday, February 7th, at noon in 1310 The Grove for DOLCE: Discussing Online Learning and Collaborative Education (DOLCE). Our faculty speakers will be Naomi Janowitz and John Goldberg.

Naomi Janowitz, Religious Studies, will present a talk titled “Facebook, Google, Canvas and You: A professor/student perspective on ethical use of technology.” Dr. Janowitz, a recipient of multiple teaching awards, will present us with multiple memorable insights that stem from her reflections on teaching.

In addition, John Goldberg, Graduate School of Management, will present his talk on “Virtual Exchange.” As he describes this talk, “UC Davis student teams have the experience of working in an intramural, cross-disciplinary, international collaboration. This is the kind of experience students are likely to have after they graduate and are working in professional positions." Goldberg’s talk exemplifies an effective use of technology to provide students authentic experiences to prepare them well for careers after college.

DOLCE will conclude with an update on Gradescope, a feedback and assessment tool. Recent faculty testimonials on the benefits of using Gradescope both for managing multiple TAs and providing improved feedback to students highlight innovative ways to use this new tool.

We look forward to seeing you all Friday in 1310 The Grove for discussions on using technologies ethically and integrating authentic experiences into your course.

Best,

Dr. Andy Jones
