Emergency Closure Resource: Best Practices for Moving Course Lectures and Discussions Online

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Given the developing concern expressed about the coronavirus COVID-19, we at Academic Technology Services are resharing the emergency closure resource we prepared to help faculty in the event of sudden or unexpected campus closures during the quarter.

While health officials remain uncertain of the trajectory this particular coronavirus will take in the United States, we wanted to remind you of best practices when moving course lectures and discussions online.

Please review this emergency closure resource. Drawing from Wiggins and McTighe’s (2005) backward design and the associated UbD template 2.0 framework, this document will aid faculty as they adapt course materials mid-quarter to integrate the following learning activities:
  • Group discussions
  • Video lectures
  • Podcasting
  • Peer collaboration
  • Communication with students
Feel free also to check out the Wheel post “Emergency Closure Resource: Utilizing group discussions, video lectures, podcasting, peer collaboration, and communication with students.” In addition, you may also find this resource on "Creating Online Video Content" to be helpful. In our role supporting faculty at UC Davis, we will continue to monitor the situation and share additional resources as needed and helpful.

Please also visit UC Davis campus coronavirus information for the latest news and updates.

Best,

Dr. Andy Jones
