May DOLCE Recorded Videos Now Available!

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

For May’s asynchronous DOLCE, we have two talented colleagues who have graciously recorded teaching-related presentations to be viewed at your convenience.

Joe Horton, from the University Writing Program, presented on “Thinking, Planning, Living, Assuring: Student Writing Collaboration with the Navajo Nation.” His presentation explores his work supporting writing collaborations amongst his UC Davis students and students from the Diné College on the Navajo nation in Tuba City, Arizona. A recent article posted by one of our talented communication interns describes this collaboration and Mr. Horton’s reflections on these collaborations. His use of technologies to support these collaborations illustrates the benefits of using technology to facilitate engaging student learning experiences and collaborations.

Miriam Martin, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, recorded her presentation titled “It Takes a Village to Teach Remotely: How to Increase Student Engagement with the Help of Undergraduate Learning Assistants.” Her talk provides helpful insight on how to leverage the help of undergraduate learning assistants to create a more engaging learning experience for our students in these unprecedented times. Dr. Martin also created a Google doc in which faculty can pose questions and access links she shared in the video.

Use #ucdavisdolce on Twitter to connect and discuss the topics of May’s DOLCE with your colleagues.

Best, Andy Jones
