Interactive video for non-instructional use

Dear Colleagues,

In February, we hosted a webinar called “Leveraging PlayPosit for Non-Instructional Use at UC Davis.” We have hosted multiple webinars about PlayPosit for instructors (you can find the topics and recordings on the Ed Tech Spotlight Series page), but for this one we focused on the many uses this tool can have outside of classroom instruction. We were so pleased that more than 20 people joined us from 10 units or departments around campus, including Shields Library, the Office of Research, and the Center for Educational Effectiveness.

Our instructor for this webinar was Stephanie Gates, our Customer Success Manager at PlayPosit. After a brief introduction to ways that PlayPosit allows interactions to be placed into the timelines of videos, Stephanie showed us how other campuses use the tool in employee HR or professional development training, student orientation, career services, and library offerings. Then William Huang, operations manager for the general chemistry teaching labs at UC Davis, shared how he uses PlayPosit to increase engagement in lab safety training for TAs.

PlayPosit can be used with videos that one records oneself, or with videos that one finds from other sources, such as YouTube. Once PlayPosit interactions are added, the resulting “bulb” can be shared with viewers either through Canvas or on a public website. Stephanie showed us how to share a bulb in either setting.

We hope the recording of this event gives you some ideas of how you might use PlayPosit. You can also watch the recording inside PlayPosit to experience a few of the tool’s features, including one of my favorites – an interactive table of contents.
