Upcoming Faculty Forum on Generative AI teaching strategies

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Stephen Hawking said, “Success in creating AI would be the biggest event in human history. Unfortunately, it might also be the last, unless we learn how to avoid the risks.”

I don’t know if we have yet reached what Hawking predicted as “success,” but I do know that AI informs an increasing number of decisions made in the business world. While academic technology typically lags communications technologies, this year we and our students nevertheless have found ourselves negotiating the opportunities and challenges presented by generative AI.

On Friday, November 17th at noon, Academic Technology Services will be hosting a Zoom Faculty Forum on teaching with generative AI, explaining our class AI policies to students, and assessing those students who are accomplished users of tools such as ChatGPT. Rather than depending on individual invited faculty speakers, we are inviting all UC Davis faculty to join us to share their diverse perspectives and concerns.

Please register now so you can join us next Friday at noon for the discussion. If you are unable to join us live on Zoom, visit The Wheel next week to watch the recording.

We look forward to seeing you on November 17th. Enjoy the long weekend.
