The “beta” on Gradescope’s new multi-version feature: how to create and grade assessments with multiple versions (and save time along the way!)

Gradescope is a powerful tool that enables student submissions to be scored efficiently, consistently, and flexibly. Using a combination of human- and AI-assisted scoring strategies, a small grading team can evaluate hundreds of short-answer, free response, or bubble-in responses in an impressively short amount of time. A just-released multi-version feature of Gradescope now allows you to create multiple versions of an instructor-uploaded assignment or exam, bundle them into a set, and grade them using the same rubric. After taking the beta version of this feature for a test-spin, I discovered several drool-worthy benefits and a few frustrating limitations of the software. My goal for this session is to introduce you to the new multi-version feature, describe the workflow to upload and score multi-version assignments, and share several best-practices that can save time for new adopters and experienced users alike.
