Learning to Design Hybrid Courses
Last Thursday was the first day of “Designing Hybrid Courses,” a graduate seminar taught by Rosemary Capps that I’m taking this quarter. There were fourteen graduate students in the room, all from different departments. The most common reason for attending the class? “I’m on the job market and the applications indicate they want people who can teach or have taught online.”
Throughout the quarter, we’ll each be redesigning a course into a hybrid format. The majority of participants plan to work with courses they’ve taught here at Davis with the intention of having a hybrid syllabus they can show prospective employers. We’ll also be experiencing a hybrid course, and Rosemary will introduce us to new tools each week.
I’m looking forward to the course and to redesigning UWP 1: Expository Writing. I’ll post about my experiences here on The Wheel!
