Margaret Merrill, PhD, is a Senior Instructional Design Consultant with Academic Technology Services. She works with faculty as they consider how to use technology in strategic and pedagogically sound ways in their teaching. Her dissertation research was on communities among foreign language teachers, and she enjoys helping all teachers recognize the resource that teachers are for each other. Previously, Margaret has taught junior high French, run faculty support programs, created technology-supported foreign language learning materials, and filmed a movie in Romania.
Mark Wilson is a Senior Instructional Design Consultant with Academic Technology Services. He works with faculty to assist with designing courses and integrating instructional technologies, particularly with blended, hybrid, and online learning. By helping faculty combine research-based pedagogical strategies with appropriate tools, he attempts to bridge the divide between emerging technologies and effective teaching. Previously, Mark has taught freshman writing courses, led faculty support programs, and advised on developing hybrid and online courses in higher education.
Donohon Abdugafurova is a Managing Editor and Instructional Designer at ATS. She works closely with Academic Associate Director Dr. Andy Jones in organizing DOLCE and Faculty Forums, the faculty events. As a Managing Editor of the Wheel, an instructional technology blog site she helps with planning, creating and managing its content.
Fei Xue is a Graduate Student Researcher with Academic Technology Services. She is a Ph.D. student in the School of Education with an area of emphasis in Learning and Mind Sciences. Her research focuses on instructional technology, information visualization, human-computer interaction, and design thinking. Before coming to UC Davis, she received an MFA degree and an MHCI degree, and she was an acrylic artist and art & design instructor.
Meet the Instructional Design Alumni
Larissa Saco was a Graduate Student Researcher with Academic Technology Services. She is a doctoral student in the Department of Sociology with scholarly interests in education, health, and inequality. Prior to graduate school, she worked as a research assistant on K-12 education program evaluations for a social policy research organization.
Alex Rockey earned her PhD in Education, with a focus on Language, Literacy, and Culture and a designated emphasis in Writing, Rhetoric, and Composition Studies as well as Second Language Acquisition. While working as a Graduate Student Researcher for ATS, she served as the Managing Editor of The Wheel, coordinated DOLCE and Faculty Forums, helped to organize SITT, and worked on instructional technology research and resources. She is an instructional design consultant for the teacher education department at CSU Bakersfield this summer, and will supervise and teach credential candidates in the fall.
While earning her PhD in Education, with an emphasis in Writing, Rhetoric, and Composition Studies, Mary K. Stewart worked as a graduate student researcher for ATS. She served as the Associate Editor of The Wheel, coordinated DOLCE and Faculty Fridays, helped to organize SITT, and contributed to the development of EdTech Commons. Currently, Mary is an Assistant Professor of English at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She will soon be an Associate Professor and General Education Writing Coordinator for CSU San Marcos.
