Upcoming DOLCE on Teaching Presence, ATS Roadshow, and Gradescope

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

The first DOLCE (Discussing Online Learning and Collaborative Education) meeting of Fall quarter 2019 is this Friday, October 4th in 1310 Surge III / The Grove at noon.

We are excited to be joined Friday by Joe Anistranski from Human Development and Family Studies. His talk is titled “Technologically-Supported Tautology: Facilitating Teacher Presence When the Teacher Isn't Present.” Given the importance of teaching presence for supporting sense of community in the online elements of both face-to-face and online courses, we look forward to exploring this topic at DOLCE.

In addition, Dr. Margaret Merrill and Mark Wilson, Instructional Designers and Educational Technologists with Academic Technology Services (ATS), will announce the new ATS Roadshow. The ATS Roadshow introduces ATS services as well as an opportunity for departments to engage with our talented instructional designers.

Finally, Steve Faith, Instructional Technologist with ATS, will offer a sneak preview of Gradescope, a feedback and assessment tool that promises to reduce time associated with the process of grading exams, homework, and other assignments. Steve Faith’s DOLCE remarks will be the first of three upcoming Gradescope events. These also include the following:

  • A Gradescope-run Zoom-based workshop on Friday, October 11, 12pm - 1pm;
  • A Faculty Forum discussing faculty experiences using Gradescope (there are more than 40 at UC Davis who have already been using Gradescope in recent years).

We are looking forward to seeing you this Friday at noon in 1310 Surge III / The Grove for the first DOLCE of Fall quarter 2019!

Best,

Dr. Andy Jones

Academic Associate Director, Academic Technology Services
