DOLCE on Managing Student Attention and Offering Audio Assessments at UC Davis

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please join us for a November DOLCE event on Friday, November 3rd, from 12-1pm. We will hear presentations from Narine Yegiyan from Communication and Pamela Chisum from the University Writing Program.

In her talk, “Managing attention and engagement through emotion regulation in a live on-line classroom, Narine Yegiyan will help attendees better understand how students allocate attention in a classroom. Yegiyan uses a motivated information processing approach to design her hybrid and in-person classroom environments. She will report on experiments conducted in real classroom settings in UC Davis and the Republic of Georgia and explain how her findings inform her proposed model as well as pedagogical practice.

Pamela Chisum takes full advantage of the multimedia affordances of UC Davis Canvas to offer  audio feedback to student writing assignments. Her practice can allow her to share more thorough, holistic, and effective comments than the typed comments that students know well. We will discuss the processes seasoned writing faculty use to help students improve their critical thinking, practice deep listening, and assess their own writing effectively.

Please register now so you can join us Friday at noon for the presentations and discussion. If you are unable to join us live on Zoom, please visit The Wheel next week to watch the recording.

See you November 3rd!
