January DOLCE: Innovative use of educational technology tools

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Happy New Year, and welcome back to another quarter at UC Davis! We hope that you will join us on Zoom this Friday, January 7th, at 12-1pm, for the first DOLCE (Discussing Online Learning and Collaborative Education) event of 2022!

We are excited about the lineup of speakers for Friday. First, Whitney Duim (Chemistry) will share her experience using Gradescope, a powerful grading tool that allows faculty and TAs to efficiently grade paper exams. Then, Lillian Jones, a PhD student in Spanish and Portuguese, will share an innovative audio-only use of AggieVideo that she developed for a fully online Spanish course. We hope the work of each of these classroom leaders will spark ideas for your own use of Gradescope and AggieVideo.

Finally, our ATS colleagues Margaret Merrill, Mark Wilson, and Joey Van Buskirk will share a brief report of ATS’ January 2022 Ed Tech Week! Ed Tech Week is happening the first week of Winter Quarter 2022, with live events focused on key campus tools happening this week, from Tuesday to Thursday, January 4-6. You are invited now to register for and attend this lunchtime (12:00) series of workshops and consultations.

As with all our events on first and third Fridays, including the Ed Tech Week workshops, this DOLCE will be recorded and the recording shared on our ATS channel in AggieVideo.

We invite you to join us on Friday for what will surely be interesting content and a lively conversation!

Best,

Dr. Andy Jones
