Upcoming Faculty Forum on Organizing your Canvas course

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

On Friday, February 16th at noon, Academic Technology Services will host a Zoom Faculty Forum on strategies for organizing your Canvas course.

The most-visited pre-recorded presentation at SITT 2020 came from veteran Psychology professor Victoria Cross. Dr. Cross taught us about “Configuring Canvas for Clarity” back in an era when we all desperately craved clarity. As we have all learned so much since then, this February we will return to Canvas, the teaching tool all of us depend upon to help our students achieve their learning objectives.

Rather than depending on individual invited faculty speakers, we are inviting all UC Davis faculty to join us to share their diverse perspectives and concerns, with a focus on strategies for setting up and implementing our courses using Canvas. Some of us use modules, some visuals, some calendars, and some units that are purposefully and sequentially revealed to our students. We will be ready to enable screen sharing so that we can learn from each others’ Canvas courses.

Please register now so you can join us on that Friday at noon for the discussion. If you are unable to join us live on Zoom, visit The Wheel in the subsequent week to watch the recording.

We look forward to seeing you on February 16th.

P.S. For another resource about using Canvas well, review this recorded talk by Steve Faith, one of our educational technologists, in November 2023. Touching on Canvas settings, modules, and analytics, his talk “Blend with the Best,” before foreign language teachers presents content applicable for instructors in any discipline.

P.P.S. Would you be interested and willing to complete a five-hour asynchronous online learning module about equitable grading practices? Colleagues at UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley, and UC Irvine are developing online instructor training resources and are seeking feedback from instructors of all levels / ranks on the pilot module. Please fill out this Qualtrics form to indicate your potential interest and the team will send you more information.
