May Faculty Forum Invite

Invitation to May 21, 2021 Faculty Forum: “Lecture Capture”

Dear Faculty Colleagues.

I’m writing to invite you to our May Faculty Forum, taking place this Friday, May 21 at noon. This month we are focusing on lecture capture. Three masters of lecture capture have agreed to join us, but we will make room for all ideas and questions around the virtual conference table. This event will be recorded.

This year of remote teaching has opened our eyes to many discovered technologies and teaching techniques, many of them concerning the shifting of time. Not able to command the attention of dozens or hundreds of students in a large lecture hall, we faculty have considered other ways to create the effect of an successful lecture by breaking the learning experience into a number of smaller activities; we then use our learning management system to lead and present those activities during our assigned class times as well as at times that best work for our students, whether they are taking our classes from an on-campus dorm room or from a dining room in an apartment in Shanghai.

We look forward to hearing your questions, including, perhaps, some of the following: What prompts faculty to use lecture capture? What advantages do students or faculty enjoy? How might lecture capture be made more effective and efficient? We will have four “plants” in the audience, so expect some wise and knowledgeable answers to such questions!

Our faculty forums are driven more by participating faculty and topics than by agendas, and are always enriched by the participation of new faculty with innovative ideas and impromptu questions. Please join us this coming Friday, May 21at noon via Zoom for informal conversations and reflections on the innovative past teaching practices and our plans for the teaching challenges of this fall, and beyond.

Best,
