SITT 2023: Small Acts, Big Impacts

Join us for SITT 2023!

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

The 2023 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology is coming up this September, and we hope you will join us!

As UC Davis faculty embrace the challenge of creating engaging, inclusive, and stimulating learning activities, we recognize that even minor improvements in a course can create sizable positive changes in student experiences. Keeping in mind this year’s SITT theme–Small Acts, Big Impacts–the 2023 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology will showcase UC Davis faculty who creatively use technology to help students succeed one step at a time.

Through a blend of pre-recorded asynchronous content and two half-days of live online sessions on September 14 and 15, this year’s SITT will feature faculty presenters who are utilizing technologies to encourage active learning, enhance accessibility, improve student outcomes, and increase learner support, even in seemingly small ways.

Additional information, such as an agenda of speakers and topics, will be shared in the coming months, but please register your interest now and mark your calendars for the mornings of September 14 and 15, so you can join us to discuss and celebrate the small acts that can have big impacts on student success. We’re excited to see you there!

We also invite you to contribute to this year’s SITT as a live or asynchronous presenter! If you would like to share your own small acts of enhancing teaching with technology, submit your proposal by Thursday, May 25. In your brief proposal of 50-100 words, select from a live talk, pre-recorded presentation, or a recorded interview with Dr. Andy. We welcome proposals on topics of your choosing, including, perhaps, one or more of the following:

  • Lessons learned from adapting your teaching for different modes and spaces that you found beneficial for your students or your workflows
  • Approaches to student-centered teaching that helped your students engage with course materials and each other
  • Uses of educational technologies, such as Canvas, that helped students participate more actively in and out of the classroom
  • Recommendations to help students to communicate more openly and consistently with their peers and instructors
  • Strategies you adopted while teaching remotely or with increased flexibility that you will continue to use
  • Examples of opportunities and challenges presented by teaching with technology and media

An advisory committee of faculty and staff will review proposals and announce acceptances in early June, with additional presenter information to follow. We hope you’ll share at this year’s SITT!

If you have any questions about submitting a proposal or attending SITT 2023, or if you need accommodation to participate, please contact InstructionalDesign@ucdavis.edu to connect with an ATS staff member. Please submit any accommodation requests no later than August 31.

See you on September 14 and 15!
