30 Years of SITT: Reaching Every Learner

Attend SITT 2025!

The 2025 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology returns to UC Davis this September, and we hope you will join us!

SITT 2025 will feature UC Davis faculty and staff during two half-days of live online presentations on the mornings of September 11 and 12. Select SITT participants will also create a 2025 library of on-demand talks and interviews available to watch at your convenience.

This year’s theme is “30 Years of SITT: Reaching Every Learner.”

UC Davis faculty teach students who are increasingly prepared to take on the challenges of our classes. That said, they are a diverse bunch who learn in different ways, sometimes facing challenges with learning disabilities, isolation from their peers, economic insecurity, first-generation status, underrepresentation in their fields of study, language barriers, and schedules that are filled with work and academic responsibilities. They also respond variously to the increasingly technologically-mediated elements of our classes. And yet, with the help, guidance, and understanding of faculty, our students excel.

This year’s SITT will focus on pedagogical and instructional technological ways that we can inspire and transform all our students, reaching every learner with our lectures, classroom activities, labs and discussion sections, and office hour consultations.

Details about SITT 2025, such as an agenda of speakers and topics, will be shared in the coming months, but please register in Zoom now and mark your calendars, so you can join us to gather strategies, exchange ideas, and help us reach every learner at UC Davis.

Present at SITT 2025!

Would you like to share your own journey of helping reach all the learners in the classes you teach? Would you like to edify your faculty peers with stories of your experiments in innovative teaching?

We invite you to contribute to this year’s SITT as an online live or asynchronous presenter by submitting your talk proposal by Tuesday, May 20. Respond to this Google form with your brief write-up of 50-100 words to apply to share your teaching and technology challenges, solutions, and outcomes via a live presentation in September or a pre-recorded talk or interview to be shared on the SITT website the week of the event. We welcome proposals on a wide range of topics, perhaps including one or more of the following:

  • Lessons learned from adapting your teaching for different modes and spaces that you found beneficial for your students or your workflows
  • Approaches to student-centered teaching that helped your students engage with course materials and each other
  • Uses of educational technologies, such as UC Davis Canvas, that helped students participate more actively in and out of the classroom
  • Recommendations to help students to communicate more openly and consistently with their peers and instructors
  • Techniques for using educational technology that allow you to multiply your impact or efficiency
  • Examples of opportunities and challenges presented by teaching with emerging technologies, such as generative AI

An advisory committee of faculty and staff will review proposals and announce acceptances in early June, with additional presenter information to follow. We hope you’ll share at this year’s SITT!

If you have any questions about submitting a proposal or attending SITT 2025, or if you need accommodation to participate, please contact InstructionalDesign@ucdavis.edu to connect with an ATS staff member. Please submit any accommodation requests no later than August 29.
