SITT 2018 Presentation Opportunity, and a Request to Review an IT Website for UC Davis
SITT 2018: The Digital Learning Environment: Engaging Students in the Classroom, and Beyond
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
I’m writing to invite you to propose a presentation for the 2018 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology (SITT), to be held on Friday, September 14th in The Grove (Surge III) room 1309. For more than 20 years, SITT has provided faculty an opportunity to meet with colleagues from across the disciplines, talk about teaching discoveries and strategies, and learn about new technologies that help our students accomplish their learning objectives.
We are now looking for presenters -- faculty who could share discoveries and insights in ten-minute “microtalks.” We anticipate that faculty talks will focus on such topics as encouraging student engagement, integrating technologies to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom, and using Canvas to facilitate active learning. In response to past post-SITT surveys, we’ve included plenty of time for questions and answers to encourage conversation among our faculty colleagues. Afternoon break-out sessions in computer classrooms will give SITT participants an opportunity to work hands-on with some of the technology tools reviewed in earlier sessions.
So please consider this invitationto participate as a presenter (or use this link: https://goo.gl/forms/LEvD0YBRiU2wn9IT2). Please submit your proposal by Friday, June 15th.If you would like to attend, save the September 14th date, and expect a link soon to the registration page. Updates will also be shared on The Wheel, the instructional technology blog for UC Davis.
Additionally, and much more immediately, in IET we are exploring the idea of creating a campus information technology website to serve as a single place where UC Davis faculty, students and staff could get a better introduction to, and understanding of, overall campus Information Technology.
We have an initial concept (http://it2.ucdsitefarm.acsitefactory.com/), and are asking for your informal feedback to help us make the site useful for faculty. We invite you to:
Take a five-question survey (requiring perhaps a few minutes) at https://ucdavis.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d1pv3PeNW6AhBxH
And/or attend a casual presentation and discussion of the site,3 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, in 1310 The Grove (Surge III). It will end by 4. As co-host, I will be joined by Bill Buchanan, the head of Communications for IET, and, I hope, by you!
Thank you and enjoy the summer!
