SITT Invitation

SITT 2021 Call for Faculty Contributors and Presenters

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

We are excited to invite you to present at the 2021 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology!

In response to the continued need for physical distancing, this year’s Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology (SITT) will take place entirely online with a mix of pre-recorded presentations, faculty interviews, and live talks on Thursday and Friday, September 9th and 10th, 2021. The theme of this year’s SITT is “Bouncing Back: Flexible Teaching in a Year of Recovery.”

Please contribute to our second virtual SITT by proposing a presentation or webinar based on your experiences and insights about teaching remotely during this past school year. We also welcome proposals about technologies and modes of instruction that you will continue to call upon as we return to face-to-face instruction this fall.

SITT 2021 will feature brief pre-recorded faculty presentations (less than 20 minutes), interviews with Dr. Andy (also less than 20 minutes) shared on our website prior to SITT, as well as synchronous talks (30 minutes each) that will be held during the live event on September 9-10. We welcome proposals on topics of your choosing, including, perhaps, some of the following:

  • A discovered remote teaching strategy or tool that you will continue to use in the coming school year
  • An important lesson you learned while adapting your instruction to digital spaces
  • Tips for creating engaging remote learning experiences
  • Approaches to teaching with videos, podcasts, illustrations, or other media
  • Ways that your future in-person classes will be different after your remote teaching experiences
  • Ways that you will use remote teaching tools (such as Zoom for office hours) in your future teaching

To be considered, please reply using this form with a brief summary of your topic (50-100 words) and proposed format (pre-recorded video, interview, or live talk) no later than Tuesday, June 1. Selected presenters will be notified by Tuesday, June 8. If you would like to brainstorm presentation topics or approaches, please make an appointment with one of our instructional designers at instructionaldesign@ucdavis.edu.

On behalf of the instructional designers and instructional technologists of Academic Technology Services, and the SITT advisory panel of staff, faculty, and graduate students, we appreciate your efforts to maintain instructional excellence during this time of remote instruction.

Thank you!
