Dear Faculty Users of SmartSite,
Our faculty friends and colleagues from across the disciplines will be meeting this coming Friday to review a number of topics in instructional technology, and I invite you to join us. Faculty Technology Training Coordinator Steve Faith will discuss some of his work exploring lecture capture. We will be asking this question: what benefit might faculty and students gain from having course lectures automatically recorded, and what’s the best way to distribute such recordings? Along those lines, we will also talk about the speakers’ series that your home departments and programs sponsor, and about ways that we can video-capture and better share the wisdom of campus visitors more widely.
In the second half of the meeting, I will talk some about the variety of entities that exist to support our use SmartSite, whether they be UC Davis programmers that are always updating Gradebook2, the company rSmart that hosts our iteration of SmartSite, or the larger Sakai Foundation that is made up of a number of the 300+ campuses that use Sakai and that are responsible for maintaining other Sakai tools.
Friday’s meeting of the Faculty Users of SmartSite will be recorded (with recordings available to be downloaded beginning next week at The Wheel (the UC Davis instructional technology blog).
