DOLCE: Faculty Reflections on Assessing with Technology
“Assessment is today's means of modifying tomorrow's instruction.” Carol Ann Tomlinson
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
We invite you to join us on Friday, November 5th at noon via Zoom to a special DOLCE (Discussing Online Learning and Collaborative Education) on technology affordances and challenges when assessing how well our students are learning the content, practices, and applications of our classes.
As assessment was an important theme of our 2021 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology, we are calling upon some of our SITT presenters to touch briefly upon some of the content of their prerecorded presentations and interviews, and then to participate in a conversation with you (we hope) about lessons learned about new and effective ways to assess our students’ learning.
We are so pleased that we will be joined by the following friends and colleagues:
- Audrey Fan, Biomedical Engineering. Please see her SITT 2021 interview with Dr. Andy, “A conversation about moving to project-based assessment”
- Debbie Fetter, Department of Nutrition. Please see her SITT 2021 interview with Dr. Andy, “A conversation about assessing with academic integrity in mind”
- Mona Monfared, College of Biological Sciences. Please see her SITT 2021 presentation, “What do students really want to know?: Making space for student inquiry in a high enrollment course”
- Sarah Faye, University Writing Program. Please see her SITT 2021 presentation, “What is Contract Grading?”
- Patricia Turner, Center for Educational Effectiveness. Please see her CEE workshop, co-created and co-presented with Dr. Margaret Merrill of ATS: “Exploring testing alternatives: Promoting student learning through low-stakes assessments”
Please join us on Zoom at noon on November 5th! We always have more fun when you are there.
Best,
Dr. Andy Jones
