Elizabeth Langridge-Noti and Jolynn Shoemaker on Teaching International Students: A SITT 2022 Interview with Dr. Andy

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please check out our SITT 2022 interview with Elizabeth Langridge-Noti and Jolynn Shoemaker!

In support of the 2022 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology, we are posting a series of Wheel articles showcasing interviews with faculty and staff on the theme of this year's SITT, "Unmuting our Students." The fourth of our interviews features Elizabeth Langridge-Noti, UC Davis Global Affairs Director of Faculty Engagement, and Jolynn Shoemaker, UC Davis Global Affairs Director of Global Engagements. Together we discuss the opportunities presented to faculty who teach international students with a focus on collaboration and abstract and practical problem-solving.

In this interview, Elizabeth Langridge-Noti and Jolynn Shoemaker share how Global Affairs utilizes low-credit summer courses and internships during the academic year to foster student understanding, engagement and leadership on pressing issues affecting our planet and its people.

Within a focus on collaboration tools and practices in both virtual and in-person experiences, Global Affairs employs technology, low-stakes assessment, and active project participation to facilitate student engagement in their learning. From these experiences, students from a diversity of disciplines and backgrounds learn about global frameworks and approaches, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and examine common problems that affect their campus, their communities, and the world.

We invite you to review the full interview with Elizabeth Langridge-Noti and Jolynn Shoemaker!

As the SITT website is now live, please sign up now for live talks and start to review the on-demand content. We will have speakers, panels, and forums for attendee participation. Also, please contact us if you know a perhaps new (or new to SITT) colleague whom we could contact directly to invite to join us. We hope to see you at SITT 2022!
