Faculty Forum on Podcasting This Friday, February 21st

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please join us this coming Friday, February 21st at noon in 1310 The Grove for a faculty forum on podcasting.

Podcasting provides faculty an excellent opportunity to make a course feel more relevant to students as well as to integrate multiple perspectives into a course. UC Davis faculty use podcasting to complete a number of goals:
  • To explore pedagogy themselves and learn more about effective teaching
  • To provide students an opportunity to create multimodal projects
  • To incorporate supplemental information for students to master concepts
  • To provide mini-lectures which students can listen to outside of the course
  • And to “capture” course content for later student review.
For more information on ways in which faculty can use podcasting to support student learning, check out “What Podcasts Can Teach Us About Teaching” from the Chronicle of Higher Education

We are excited to explore this topic at the upcoming faculty forum to better understand ways in which faculty at UC Davis have used or envisioned using podcasts in their courses. Dr. Paul Aronowitz from the UC Davis School of Medicine will join us for this discussion. Dr. Aronowitz presented on podcasting at the 2019 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology and impressed us all with his use of this technology to support student learning (SITT 2019 Attendee Materials includes a recording of his presentation and slides). In addition, Mark Wilson, instructional designer and educational technologist with Academic Technology Services, will share information about the newly added podcasting hub in the eLearning Studio and how faculty can utilize this service to create their own high-quality podcasts.

Have ideas about or questions about podcasting? Join us Friday for this informative and engaging informal conversation.

Best,

Dr. Andy Jones

Academic Associate Director, Academic Technology Services
