Festival of Failure This Friday, November 15th!

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please join us this Friday, November 15th for a “Festival of Failure.” This faculty forum will provide faculty the opportunity to share how they have grown as educators by reflecting on what hasn’t worked in their classes, whether they be face-to-face, hybrid, or online.

By applying a growth mindset to our own teaching, we can create a culture in which we are not defined by our failures, but rather one in which we are defined by how we react to our frequent classroom mishaps and then grow in response.

We hope you will join us and share your own story of failure, especially if it is humorous, cringeworthy, or otherwise memorable. Perhaps you have recently experienced a teaching failure of some sort (we can join you in blaming the tool or technology you have deployed for the first time) and would like to brainstorm with supportive colleagues on next steps so you can grow from your experience and/or recover gracefully. Or perhaps you would simply like to listen to your colleagues’ stories of technology and teaching challenges, self-inflicted and otherwise.

On a side note, because we want to preclude any mishaps with the Final Grading System, we invite you to help us test the stability and functionality of the Final Grading System by following these directions. Your feedback will help IET to make the end-of-quarter process be as smooth as possible.

As always, faculty forums provide a space to share experiences with colleagues who teach in many different disciplines. Please join us for the first “Festival of Failure” faculty forum on November 15th in Surge III / The Grove.

Best,
