Join us at the November 7th noon Zoom DOLCE talks on Teaching and Assessing Students in Large (Biology and Psychology) Classes
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
Please register now to join us Friday November 7th at noon for our next DOLCE presentations and discussion. If you are unable to join us live on Zoom, please visit The Wheel in the subsequent week to watch the recording.
We will enjoy presentations by two DOLCE speakers.
Marina Ellefson
Talk Title: “A Tale of Two Classes: Structure, Engagement, and Outcomes in an Online versus In-Person Large-Enrollment Course”
Professor Ellefson says this: “We’ll discuss the structure and outcomes from a large online summer session course enrolled by 350 students as well as sharing reflections on use of educational technology to engage students online and lessons learned.”
Victoria Cross
Talk Title: “Beyond Blue Books: Video Assessments for Large-Enrollment Classes”
Professor Cross will take on various forms of alternative assessments, or what she calls “asynchronous assessments that can’t be gamed or AI-ed.” She will talk about having “pairs of students submit video recordings” with a report on how her approaches worked for the students and the teaching assistants.
Generative AI will feature in Professor Cross’s talk and likely in our discussion following both presentations. I hope you will join us for these short talks and the conversations that follow. See you on November 7th!
