March DOLCE Invitation - Faculty presentations on privacy, accessibility, and engagement

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please join us on Friday, March 4th at 12pm on Zoom for a special DOLCE (Discussing Online Learning and Collaborative Education) meeting featuring faculty and staff presenting on instructional technology and pedagogy topics that we think will interest you.

Lisa Rapalyea of Human Ecology will brief attendees on the joys and challenges of teaching during the pandemic, with a focus on addressing the privacy needs of students who want to speak anonymously about sensitive subjects in her Human Sexuality classes, and addressing the learning and communication needs of people with disabilities (including Professor Rapalyea herself). If you would like to learn about teaching and communicating with a tablet while on the move in a large classroom, you will want to attend this memorable presentation.

Alisa Shubb from Communication will subsequently present on "An Approach to Student Engagement: Using live lecture, lecture capture, short videos,and a custom textbook." Interest in Lecture Capture has understandably skyrocketed in recent years. Professor Shubb, who is also the Academic Senate President at American River College, will show us how she combines a variety of tools and approaches in her classes.

Finally, I look forward to reintroducing attendees to Joshua Hori, the new Accessibility Coordinator for IET’s Academic Technology Services. For the past 10+ years Josh has been involved with alternate media, web accessibility, and accessible technology implementations across the campus for students with disabilities and believes they should be used by all. Josh has also served as tech consultant for the UC Davis MIND institute in research on mobile apps and organization for students with learning disabilities and students on the spectrum.
