Plan to join us at the February 6th noon Zoom DOLCE on Navigating Gen AI in Large Enrollment Courses

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please register now to join us Friday, February 6th at noon on Zoom for our February DOLCE presentations and discussion. If you are unable to join us live on Zoom, please visit The Wheel in the subsequent week to watch the recording.

We will enjoy presentations by two DOLCE speakers who will exemplify how faculty are navigating AI in large-enrollment courses.

The first speaker will be Julie Sze, Professor of American Studies

Provocatively, she has titled her DOLCE talk “CODE RED: AI.” The subtitle is “Thinking about Critical Thinking, Skills Development and More in a large-lecture GE Humanities Course.” Professor Sze will talk about recent shifts in her lower-division GE humanities courses, with a specific focus on questions of equity. From our recent conversation, I can reveal that Professor Sze will discuss her thoughtful approach to assignments, her AI policies and concerns, and her work with teaching assistants in large-enrollment courses. I’m eager to hear from this first-time DOLCE speaker.

The second speaker will be Julia Chamberlain, Associate Professor of Teaching from the Department of Chemistry

A favorite past presenter, Dr. Chamberlain will discuss her experiences teaching chemistry using AI to summarize student responses to “muddiest point” and “just in time” surveys administered in Canvas, for the purpose of increasing instructor immediacy in the classroom. The title of her talk is “Can Artificial Intelligence Shrink My Class?  Using Chat GPT to process student survey responses for a large lecture course.”

I hope you can join us for these short talks and the conversations that follow. See you on February 6th!
