Attend SITT 2026!

The 2026 Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology returns to UC Davis this September, and we hope you will join us! As you can see below, we hope you will also propose a presentation or interview by May 19.

Brought to you by Academic Technology Services, SITT 2026 will feature several synchronous talks from UC Davis faculty via Zoom the mornings of September 10th and 11th, as well as a larger number of brief pre-recorded presentations and interviews with Dr. Andy Jones to be shared on the on-demand portion of the SITT website for viewing any time alongside recordings from the live event.

This year’s theme is “Authentic Teaching in a Tool-Rich World.”

As UC Davis faculty, we design learning experiences that center what humans can do together. Authentic teaching in a tool-rich world requires that we consider what kinds of thinking, inquiry, and interaction cannot be outsourced. SITT presenters and interviewees will discuss how to design assignments that draw on students’ lived experience, foreground in-person dialogue and group work, and emphasize revision, reflection, and learning from mistakes.

We invite faculty navigating these challenges to work with the resources available to us. When used strategically, campus-supported tools can expand access, support different learning methods, and open new pathways for engagement. SITT participants will learn to make more thoughtful choices about when to incorporate technology, when to set it aside, and how to design courses that prioritize presence, curiosity, and meaningful exchange.

Details about SITT 2026, such as an agenda of speakers and topics, will be shared in the coming months, but please register in Zoom now and mark your calendars, so you can join us to gather strategies, exchange ideas, and help us reach every learner at UC Davis.

Plan to present at SITT 2026!

Would you like to share your own journey of authentic teaching? Would you like to edify your faculty peers with stories of your experiments with teaching tools?

We invite you to contribute to this year’s SITT as an online live or asynchronous presenter by submitting your talk proposal by Tuesday, May 19. Respond to this Google form with your brief write-up of 50-100 words to apply to share your teaching and technology challenges, solutions, and outcomes via a live presentation in September or a pre-recorded talk or interview to be shared on the SITT website. We welcome proposals on a wide range of topics, perhaps including one or more of the following:

  • Lessons learned from adapting your teaching for different tools, modes, and spaces that you found beneficial for your students or your workflows
  • Approaches to student-centered teaching that helped your students engage meaningfully with course materials and each other
  • Uses of educational technologies, such as UC Davis Canvas, that helped students participate more actively in and out of the classroom
  • Strategies to help students to communicate more openly and consistently with their peers and instructors
  • Techniques for using educational technologies and AI tools that allow you to multiply your impact or efficiency
  • Examples of opportunities and challenges presented by teaching with emerging technologies, such as generative AI

An advisory committee of faculty and staff will review proposals and announce acceptances in early June, with additional presenter information to follow. We hope you’ll share at this year’s SITT!

If you have any questions about submitting a proposal or attending SITT 2026, or if you need accommodation to participate, please contact [email protected] to connect with an ATS staff member. Please submit any accommodation requests no later than August 28.
