On Friday, October 16, more than 20 UC Davis faculty from across the disciplines met via Zoom for our noon Faculty Forum on how we discuss generative AI with our students.

Attendees discussed AI course policies they’ve written, the AI conversations they’ve had with students, and stories they’ve heard from colleagues, including about academic integrity, assessments, and our students’ preparation for subsequent UC Davis classes and their careers.

At the recent Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology, with its focus on Authentic Teaching in a Tool-Rich World, participating faculty reported that they are still struggling to figure out how best to discuss generative AI use with their students.

April 24, 2027 marks the federal deadline for digital accessibility under ADA Title II. At UC Davis, our commitment to accessibility will honor both the mandate and our Principles of Community as we remove barriers for all learners. Part of a series continuing from fall 2025, Quick Access this quarter will focus on improving accessibility in specific teaching and learning contexts. In this session, we explored opportunities for collaboration in the classroom. Lisa Oakes and Shannon Klotz shared how they use Perusall to move beyond basic reading compliance toward collaborative annotation, shared preparation, and meaningful student interaction. Katie Evans then described her work co-creating AI use policies with students, emphasizing transparency and student agency.
