On Friday, January 19th at noon, Academic Technology Services will be hosting a special Zoom Faculty Forum on Teaching with AI in STEM, with a focus on the perspectives of veterinary medical education.

The neuroscientist and engineer Jeff Hawkins once said that “The key to artificial intelligence has always been the representation.” We appreciate the significant faculty representation at our AI Faculty Forum on Friday, November 17th. We appreciated the lively discussion and your thoughtful comments from the more than 50 attendees!

Stephen Hawking said, “Success in creating AI would be the biggest event in human history. Unfortunately, it might also be the last, unless we learn how to avoid the risks.”

I don’t know if we have yet reached what Hawking predicted as “success,” but I do know that AI informs an increasing number of decisions made in the business world. While academic technology typically lags communications technologies, this year we and our students nevertheless have found ourselves negotiating the opportunities and challenges presented by generative AI.
